grate the carrots

One of the many reasons I love my wife is she is always trying to better herself. Could be spiritually, physically, emotionally, whatever way you can think of. For this reason, we are generally on the same page as I continue to work on myself. She gets it. Her “way” is certainly not my “way”, it is neither better nor worse, but she understands.

She has been eating a lot of raw carrot salad lately and has experienced the health benefits. With this comes a lot of grating. I cook a fair amount for our family, some experiences I enjoy, some I do not. Grilling on a nice warm day is a peaceful place. Grating carrots and the cleanup afterward, not so much.

When one is on a spiritual journey it is easy to say: “one of your obligations is to serve and support your family, it makes her happy, it helps her physically, learn to love it.”

So then, you try to force yourself to love performing that action and it does not work. Or, your ego tricks you into believing you love it. Or, your spiritual ego kicks-in and says “hey, look at you, look at how much you are helping.”

This is why it is so important to journal. Especially if you have a consistent act. Could be housework, or helping family, or work, or any of the multitude of acts you engage in on a consistent basis. You begin to understand how many different ways you feel about the same thing. You are a product of the field of consciousness you are currently in, in that moment.

Which of these feelings described are “right”? Ultimately, none of them. Although you will continue to experience all of them on your path. I know I do and I will. That is the work.

The real work using the example above is to simply grate the carrots without thought or motive. That is it. The pure experience, when you are truly in equilibrium and in alignment with All That Is around you. It is what is there to be done, nothing more and nothing less. And when you stop attaching thought or motive to the action, you are more able to feel that equilibrium and see the path that is set out for you.

See yourself in Love, as I see you.
